Auckland and Bay of Plenty Building Contractors – We Do Renovations And New Builds
When you’re a builder, people put their biggest asset in your hands: their homes. It’s a big responsibility, and one we do not take lightly.
Below are stories of some of our achievements.
CASE STUDY 1:
Second story addition in Kingsland.
Ben and Bryony had a young family and lived in a 2-bedroom duplex. Having no space to build out, their only option was to build up.
With a great design and 25 doors and windows capturing sun from every angle, it made every space in this house unique and a warm and connectable home for the family to grow into.
Before the build started, we shrink-wrapped the existing home, so we could stick to a tight schedule and finish the job in a short timeframe over winter. There were a number of issues to overcome during the build as it was a very tight site with many residents to consider and a common area that need to be accessible 24/7. The build resulted with not only happy clients, but happy neighbours and residents too.

Right from the first meeting, our experience of building with Encore was genuinely great. Dominic sat down at an early stage and contributed good ideas about how to effectively build our home. My partner, who is a boat builder, appreciated that Dominic understood our need to keep the build to a tight time frame and fixed budget. My partner was super busy running his own business, and so I had the task of keeping an eye on the build day to day. I never felt patronised by Dominic, despite my lack of experience and knowledge about building. It felt like there were endless decisions I needed to make, and I enjoyed Dominic’s approach to explaining things to me so I could make informed choices.
I find it hard to believe our tiny 70’s unit has been transformed into such a wonderful, warm family home- on time and on budget.
CASE STUDY 2:
Extension and full house renovation in Green Bay.
Marty and Olivia loved their 3-bedroom 1970’s home but with their children growing older they were finding space was becoming harder to find.
We carefully added a modern 2 storey addition onto their existing home which was seamlessly tied together via a stylish stair well. The addition created a new extra-large garage, 2 bedrooms and a stunning master bedroom complete with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite with views across the valley and out to the Sky Tower. Of course the existing was cared for with a full makeover to match.
With beautiful internal finishes such as American Oak stair treads and floors, black laminated ply fin stair screen, vitex decking, and double glazed black architectural suite windows; and external touches such as vertical shiplap cedar highlighting the 2nd story inset and a combination of titan board, vertical stria cladding, and horizontal weatherboard on the main extension.
This was a harmonious marriage between Marty and Olivia, their architect Karl Fenning, and Encore Building Services Ltd.

CASE STUDY 3:
New build in St Heliers.
Developers Zach and Debbie were looking to do something bold and a step up from their multi-site developments, so he took on this challenging site with vision.
The project started with mammoth earthworks on a steep site; 1000m3 of excavation, 26x 10m deep piles. 2,432m of steel and 84m3 of concrete later and we had the 21m long x 5.4m high retaining wall up. This allowed us to then do multiple cuts on the site to form a backyard and build a multi-level house consisting of 5x bedrooms plus study, 3 bathrooms, kitchen with scullery, lift, cantilevered decks and double garage, spread out of over 3 storey’s, boasting views of Auckland Harbour and Rangitoto and overlooking Glover Park in St Heliers.
A bold project and a talking point for the locals. And now a gorgeous home for the new owners.

We used Dominic and his team at Encore for a 6-month renovation and major extension project involving a small bungalow, in 2017. Everything went smoothly, regular Friday meetings with Dominic provided a good opportunity to catch up on progress and discuss any issues. Dominic was always on time, obliging and easy to deal with. CASE STUDY 4:
Full house renovation in Grey Lynn.
Chris and Nik wanted to give their 2-bedroom rental property a makeover to not only achieve maximum rental return, but also to increase the value of their property portfolio.
To achieve this, we stripped out the interior in full of their 1920s bungalow and revisited the floor plan to add a 2nd bathroom and new kitchen with open plan living which flows out onto the entertainment deck and fully landscaped gardens.
The proof is in the pudding with the property being rented the second it hit the market for what our client expected. And our client continues to use us for his other rental properties, so our work speaks for itself.
